The mission of Gilda's Club Metro Detroit is to provide a meeting place where men, women and children with cancer, their families and friends can join with others to build social and emotional support as a supplement to medical care. Free of charge, non-residential and non-profit, Gilda's Club offers groups, lectures, workshops and social events in a conveniently located, home-like setting in Royal Oak. Funding comes from private individuals, corporations and foundations. Gilda's Club is named in honor of the late comedian Gilda Radner. In describing the emotional and social support she received in her own life, Gilda called for such places of participation and education, hope and friendship to be made available to people with cancer, their family members and friends everywhere.
