  Gilda Radner was the first female comedian hired for the show, “Saturday Night Live,” in 1975.

Gilda’s Club Metro Detroit has more than 5,000 members, the largest membership of all Gilda’s Club affiliates.

Gilda Radner was a native Detroiter and graduated from Liggett School. She attended University of Michigan in Ann Arbor before moving to Toronto.

The original clubhouse design for Gilda’s Club Metro Detroit was purchased from a Sears, Roebuck and Co. catalog in 1913.

Gilda Radner won an Emmy Award in 1978 for her wacky characters and celebrity spoofs on “Saturday Night Live.”

Gilda’s Club membership is open to men, women, children, and their families and friends touched by any of the more than 300 known types of cancer.

Gilda Radner was the personality behind popular “Saturday Night Live” characters, Roseanne Roseannadanna, Lisa Loopner and Babwa Wawa.

All programs are free to Gilda’s Club members. The organization is supported through individual donations, foundations, corporate support and fundraising events.
