Gilda’s Club Metro Detroit Announces Partnership with The Lake House

Royal Oak, MI (March 5, 2019) – Gilda’s Club Metro Detroit and The Lake House are pleased to announce a merger that will ensure greater opportunities to serve families facing cancer.

The decision to bring The Lake House under the Gilda’s Club umbrella was months in the making with one motivation – to continue, broaden and strengthen cancer support throughout metro Detroit.

The partnership is perfectly timed. Gilda’s Club has been serving metro Detroit for 25 years and is in a position to expand its footprint. For 8 years, the Lake House has built strong and meaningful programming that mirror the vision Gilda Radner set in motion when she said, “Everyone Needs a Place,” as she faced insurmountable odds.

The Lake House will continue its full slate of local programming under the Gilda’s Club name and umbrella, becoming, Gilda’s Club Metro Detroit, Lake House location. Programming will continue, with its current staff, at the Saint Clair Shores location on Pare Street with no disruption.

Just 16 miles apart, this is a wonderful opportunity for both facilities. The Lake House membership can take advantage of Gilda’s Club extensive programming in Royal Oak and current members of Gilda’s Club have options now on the eastside.

Gilda’s Club and The Lake House have a long history of purpose. Many of the founders of The Lake House have roots with the inception of Gilda’s Club Metro Detroit.

Laura Varon Brown, Executive Director & CEO said, “The true beneficiaries of this merger are those we serve – our members. We are thrilled to broaden our reach and impact.” Gilda’s Club sets the gold standard of care, erasing any barriers to support, education and wellness. Everything under our roof, whether that be in Royal Oak, Farmington Hills, Dearborn and now in Saint Clair Shores, is free of any costs to families facing cancer.

Gilda’s Club Metro Detroit provides free social and emotional support for: men, women and children living with cancer, their families and friends. Gilda’s Club offers more than 150 activities including: support and networking groups, bereavement groups, therapeutic art and music program, educational lectures, healthy eating and lifestyle workshops, children and teen activities and social activities. Gilda’s Club Metro Detroit celebrates 26 years of providing support, community and laughter to our courageous members with no barriers to care – there is no cost to members.
