It’s simple. Call 248.577.0800 to schedule a New Member Meeting with our clinical team. These orientation sessions allow prospective participants to determine if our programs are a good fit and allows staff to offer customized recommendations for how to get the most from participation. You are welcome to attend many activities at the clubhouse with a quick RSVP.
Gilda’s Club Metro Detroit is where you come to learn how to live with cancer, whatever the outcome. Support and networking groups, educational lectures, workshops, music, art and social events, as well as structured programs for children and teens, help participants build their own unique and customized community of support.
Of course! You are welcome to try an activity or two before deciding to become a member. Once you become a member, you will have access to weekly support groups and enjoy other special events throughout the year.
Participating in Gilda's Club Metro Detroit provides a community of others who understand you - offering you the social and emotional support needed while facing cancer and its after effects. We're here to help you build the support that feels right for you.
Children and teens love to come to Gilda's Club Metro Detroit! We support any child or adolescent who has been impacted by cancer - whether they have been diagnosed, are experiencing a family member's diagnosis, or grieving the death of a loved one. We also have special groups for teens, and offer family activities throughout the year. If you would like to attend an activity not identified for the whole family, please contact us a minimum of of 48 hours in advance to arrange for trained volunteers to provide supervised play and/or therapeutic activities for your child(ren) during the activity. We do our best to honor all requests and the most advanced notice we have, the more likely we are able to meet this need.
Gilda’s Club is for anyone impacted by any type of cancer, at any time. We serve men, women, teens, children and entire families – whether they or their loved one is newly diagnosed, finishing treatment, post treatment, living chronically with cancer, experiencing a recurrence, grieving a loss, or a multi-year survivor. Membership is always free.
No. Gilda’s Club Metro Detroit is a place for ANYONE impacted by cancer. We serve men, women, teens and children with all types and stages of cancer – from early diagnosis and active treatment into survivorship and bereavement. Our program is also helpful and available for families and friends of those diagnosed.
No, participation is free! The process includes talking in-person or virtually with a clinical staff member to answer any questions you have about our programs, learn more about your current situation, and link you with the programs that will best meet your interests and needs.  While Gilda's Club Metro Detroit has multiple locations, you only join once and you're welcome to participate at any site.
Our focus is on community support. While we don’t provide individual therapy, we’re happy to connect you with trusted resources and referrals for one‑on‑one support if that’s what you’re looking for.
Wellness groups are weekly support groups for men and women currently in treatment. Networking groups are monthly informative groups which are diagnosis or situation specific. Family and friends can attend networking groups, as long as they have become members. All of our support groups are led by licensed mental health professionals.
Named after the noogies that Gilda used to receive on “Saturday Night Live,” Noogieland is a special place at our Royal Oak Clubhouse where kids can be kids, connect with other children and families, and see that they are not alone. We offer support to children, teens and families impacted by cancer through age-appropriate support and networking groups, social events, arts and crafts, and family activities. Our program is designed to be a place for children and teens to learn, play, care and share, all the while supported by our professional staff and trained volunteers.
No, Gilda’s Club is non-residential, but our freestanding clubhouses have a warm and welcoming home-like atmosphere where members can relax and feel comfortable in a non-medical setting. Members are welcome to visit the clubhouse to enjoy a cup of coffee, visit with other members or relax in the gardens prior to a group, event, activity or workshop.
Private individuals, corporate sponsors, foundations and special events provide enormous direct and in-kind support for the program activities and operational/clubhouse costs of Gilda’s Club. Donations to Gilda’s Club Metro Detroit support people touched by cancer living throughout Michigan.
