Just for Children and Teens

Noogieland is our program offering ongoing support for children who have been diagnosed with cancer, have a loved one living with cancer, or grieving the loss of a loved one to cancer. Noogieland consists of children support groups, educational and interactive workshops and Camp Sparkle.

Noogieland – For Children Under 5

For our tiny members, we offer reserved Noogieland time, just for toddlers under the age of 5. These ‘Tiny-Tot’ Play Dates are set up during various adult programing, so parents can rest assure their little one is playing in a save, supervised area nearby. We also offer a special once a month, interactive ‘ Tiny-Tots’ Story Time, facilitated by a professional librarian, that incorporates story and music for toddlers and their parents.

Support Groups

Our kids support groups are facilitated by licensed clinicians and provide a safe environment for kids to share their feelings. These groups are structured around providing age appropriate cancer information, learning relaxation and coping skills as well as building support, through creative art and play. They are scheduled at the same time as many of Gilda’s Club adult activities, so that comprehensive support can be provided to the whole family.

Camp Sparkle

This very special program is a 5-week summer day camp (2 days during the week) that provides fun themes, specialized workshops and lots of laughter during summer vacation. Snacks are provided. There is no fee for Camp Sparkle but registration is required as there is limited space. Children ages 5-12 are invited to attend – Older children may be able to serve as Camp Sparkle volunteers) 2016 Camp dates will be announced soon! For more information contact Megan Nikolich at mnikolich@gildasclubdetroit.org.

Workshops

Outside of a traditional support group, we also offer a variety of kids workshops. These workshops allow the kids to explore various avenues of expression, while building a community with the other children living with a cancer diagnosis in the family. They have the opportunity to explore writing and music through our ‘Tell Me Your Story’ and ‘Kids Jam’ workshops as well as learn relaxation techniques and expression through art in ‘Kids Yoga’ and ‘Sparkle Art’ workshops.
