Operations Update: 6/5/2020

Dear Gilda’s members, volunteers and supporters,

As the Michigan Governor announces new stages, guidelines and precautions of the MI Safe Start Plan, I wanted to update you on our plan at Gilda’s Club Metro Detroit.

Our timeline is based on the immunocompromised members we serve, the ability of our staff to adequately prepare the Clubhouses for re-entry and the comfort and readiness of our Gilda’s community.

The gradual ability for members to return to the Clubhouse for initial limited programming will lag behind other businesses.  We will re-open our physical doors at a pace that is right for our members recognizing the vulnerabilities they face.

We feel confident in our cautious timeline because our programming on visual and audio platforms is going exceedingly well. We have more than 30 programs offered virtually each week and that is expanding. More than 300 member visits each week and in May alone, 1,215 total visits.

However, we absolutely recognize that our beautiful culture of community yearns for the warmth that is seeded by conversation, less technology and more direct interactions. We WILL see those days again under our roofs.

All of us at Gilda’s Club miss the more randomness of our daily routine and seeing all of you. This virtual world is just a temporary tool until we can all gather again.

We are in times of great challenge. Please know we are here for you and adapting daily to how best our embrace can support you. In the next few days, please look for a survey for members and volunteers that will help guide our timeline and program offerings.

In a few weeks, once we have a look at the data as Michigan re-opens, we will have a greater sense of the impact on cases of COVID-19 and what our timeline looks like.

Until then, be safe, find love and we’ll see you on Zoom!
